The ponzi scheme is a deceptive investment scam that relies on real money from new investors to pay off the money owed to the old ones. It starts with a small group of wealthy people who encourage others to join their investment enterprise. In exchange for cash, the members receive a share of whatever profit the enterprise earns. The more people who join, the greater the enterprise's profits.

As long as the enterprise can grow in size, it can continue to pay out returns to its investors without having to produce actual profits. But eventually, the members must realize that they will never get out of debt and be unable to pay their investors what they are owed. When that realization occurs, the ponzi scheme collapses.
